Isla Aikido Philosophy

Whether this is your first time joining a martial arts class, or you have martial art discipline to another you will have a unique experience with us. We are not like any other martial arts dojo. Our focus here at Isla Aikido is on self-growth for each Aikidoka (Aikido student) and as a person, not on winning, aggression or competition.

We play to become better people from within, and recognizing that we are our own worst enemy.

We play for enlightenment and self-defense, not to be the aggressors.

We play to neutralize aggressive behaviors by developing and utilizing verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Keep in mind that everyone cannot be reasoned with. Learn to apply pressure to portions of the hand in hopes of remaining safe in the midst of an attack.

We recognize that aggression and violence are all around today's society. It is in our homes, our schools, towns, country and even on our vacations.

Learning to deal with aggressive and violent behaviors is extremely important. Meeting aggression with aggression will only breed trouble. Peace is our goal and harmony is our intention.

May your time here be enlightening, may your skills develop and exceed expectations, and may your heart overflow with the essence of Aikido.

Words have a power of their own.

The power of the spoken word was recognized in Japan at "Kotodama" or word spirit. To speak a word is to encourage it to come true, your life energy responds to sounds and thoughts, as expressed in the spoken word. When you fill your daily life with positive words and thoughts your life is filled with the power of Ki. In this way you can keep mentally and physically healthy and have a positive influence on others as well. Words have real power, and can produce practical results in your life.
